WHAT TO WEAR for your

Newborn Photography Session...

When it comes to planning a newborn photoshoot, one of the most common questions parents ask is, "What should we wear?" The truth is, there's no one-size-fits-all answer, as it largely depends on the tone and style of the session, as well as the presence of additional children. However, if you're aiming for timeless family portraits, opting for neutrals like creams, whites, and soft tones can create a classic and cohesive look that stands the test of time.

1. Avoiding clothing with logos or busy patterns is key to keeping the focus on your family and tiny newborn, rather than distracting elements. For moms, especially in the postpartum period, choosing something that makes them feel beautiful and comfortable is essential. Adjusting to changes in body image after childbirth can be challenging, so selecting an outfit that boosts confidence is paramount.

2. While neutrals and creams are recommended, don't stress if everything doesn't match perfectly. It's wise to bring a few outfit options to the shoot if unsure, allowing for flexibility and ensuring everyone feels their best. Moms, consider taking some time to pamper yourself before the session—a shower, some makeup, and a lovely dress can make you feel like the radiant queen you are. Dresses tend to flatter all body types and can add an elegant touch to the photos. If you're unsure where to find the perfect outfit, ask about our client closets offered. Or browse online retailers like Amazon, Baltic Born, or Pink Blush for affordable yet stylish options.

3. When it comes to sleeve length, opt for 3/4 sleeves or long sleeves, especially if bare shoulders aren't part of the planned style. However, if you've discussed a more intimate, bare-shoulder look with your photographer, sleeveless tops or dresses could work beautifully. Ultimately, the goal is to come as the authentic family you are, so choose outfits that reflect your personalities and make you feel comfortable and confident.

4. Embracing a color palette that complements mom's outfit choice, such as creams and whites, pinks or blue (depending on girl or boy), can simplify the planning process and ensure a cohesive look for the entire family. This timeless color scheme not only photographs beautifully but also eliminates the stress of coordinating multiple colors and patterns. Trust your photographer to work their magic, and focus on enjoying the precious moments with your newborn during this special session.

5. Bringing your newborn in a zip-up sleeper for the photoshoot is a fantastic idea! This simple garment ensures that your baby stays comfortable and cozy until the session, while also making it easy to remove for quick and seamless removal without going over your baby's head and unsettling baby. Your photographer will be prepared to jump right into the session, whether it's with bare skin shots, a newborn-appropriate outfit, or a snuggly swaddle. Personally, as a photographer, I have an extensive collection of wraps in various colors and textures, ensuring that I can effortlessly complement whatever attire parents arrive in. This flexibility allows for an stress-free and enjoyable experience, ensuring that the focus remains on capturing those precious moments with your little one.
